Mindless Postery Thing

wahey! it’s a posterish uh whatjacallit, um you know where halfway through a book or a comic or whatever there’s suddenly a page with all the characters POSIN’. actually they aren’t really posing, more sort of standing around. shh. i can’t draw posin’.

SO it’s a, uh, i’ve just decided they’re called pinup pages. it’s a pinup page for mine and ’s fic, which is up on her account.
i did one before but it was ubersketchy, so this is both a colour ref. sheet for me and a…is it, actually, pinup page? or was it splash panel? no wait, that’s something else entirely. hang on. no. yes. awgh forget it. it’s a flamin’ picture. that’ll do.

SO starting from upper left actuator (your left! YOUR left!) we have uh the upper left actuator, Chet K (iris-y smirky goodness), lower left actuator, Escher G (pinball smile! woo!), Otto (hair! trench! and mask thingie on sunglass lenses, and on window, and on heartlights, which is my crowning technical achievement in PSP7!), Kat M (i tried to give her purple eyes, but it had a frightening Marylin Manson effect so i gave up), lower right actuator, Star (go Star! defy that gravity!), upper right actuator, and John. yeeeahhh.

actuators! that’s the part i’m happiest with. i went all inventive on the actual design a bit, to try and cut the details down (the DETAIL on those things in the film…whoahh.) but still make them look chunky and involved. i like ‘em, i think. padded walls are very irritating to shade.

i went through about sixteen layouts before i got to the final one. my main problem was that with all six figures in a group, John looked like part of the Octoposse. which is, uh, a little different from the truth. plus it got too crowded, what with the tentacles trying to get in on the act and all. so i had to use the observation window idea as a way of separating the two sides, kinda thing. CRAZY STUPID PERSPECTIVE! *cries* shut up, it’s artistic licence, not ineptitude. i used burn to do some of the eye shadows, apart from that there’s no shade fills. except one on esch’s hair. looking kinda twitchy there, innshe? hmm the more i draw chet’s hair the more it looks like he just stuck his finger in a bug zapper. hair is not my forte. what is a forte, exactly?
