New York, September 1911...
yay! big budget sets for this one! i thought, dude, i want the first shot to totally be a decrepit-lookin' turn-of-the-century type version of Sporlock like from the photo i used on the website. and, and um, have it as seen from below like it's the Bates Motel or something. Then i thought, knickers, i can't draw buildings. Or perspective. Then I did it anyway. cuz i won't learn if i don't try, will i? so this is what is known in illustrator's parlance as 'a fair ol' stab'. and you get a couple of gratituitous balloons for free, that's more than you get from most issues of Penthouse. Go forward a page---->[link] sooo... It's set in 1911, only that's just a sort of random year because I think this is going to be the sort of universe that pick-and-mixes from happenings in that era and SM2 era and god knows what else. Because I love history... things but have no head for dates. Steampunk Calamari! |

For someone who can't do buildings or perspective this is more than a 'fair ol' stab.'
And what the hell is going on in there?

Only advice I have for perspective (cuz I sure as hell ain't an expert) is to use a rular. Even if you want your windows to be round-ish, they'll still be lined up.

I like the little airships. I've always wanted to go up in one.

If you like RPG's, there's one you might want to check out. It's called Arcanum, and it's a game for the pc centering on steampunk. One of the coolest things I've ever seen. There's also a book I have that I haven't read yet but I keep meaning to *argh* called "The Difference Engine" by William Gibson and and and... what the hell is the other guy's name. Bruce Sterling. Some nice steampunk fiction for ya.
I've had my head totally in cyberpunk lately and I haven't seemed to be able to get it out. Steampunk is next on my list. You keep drawing like this, and I'll have to read that book.
