Well, after seeing Michos9's awesome ping-pong ball Cores---> [link] I had to have a go myself. This is my Wheatley model, made from a couple of ping pong balls, a couple of message clips, and a handful of electronics.
Haha I learned quite a lot doing this. I basically had to go into a hardware shop and go 'HELP I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM DOING.' Then I had to go home and put together a circuit using what I remembered from secondary school science classes.
And then I had to learn to solder. One tip about molten metal I have learned during this project- it is, actually, quite hot.
He lights up with a switch on the back, and his eye actually cracked while I was cutting it, which was an awesome stroke of luck. I tried to detail-paint as close to the ingame model as possible, from his scratch-marks to the little white voice-print sticker, which was a case of trying to paint without breathing.
If I made another version, I'd not use white spray paint as a base coat. I don't know if my paint is old or something, but it created this sort of textured bumpy effect which I didn't really want. I liked the shiny ping-pong ball texture better. It sort of works though, as it makes him look a bit more beaten-up.
*cries and whipmers* UUUUUHH!!!!!!!!!!!! WHYY WHY WHY????????????I TRIED MAKIING ONE OUT OF A PING PONG BALL AND FOAM AND IT SUCKED! WHY DOES URS LOOK SO REAL LIFE WHEATLY????? I DONT KNOW HOW TO EXACTLY MAKE ONE BY CUTTING THE BALLS *tee hee, balls...* UP AND GLUING THEM TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did use a compass, though, to get perfect circles. Also I sanded the cuts after, to make them look smooth.
Michos9 did an amazing tutorial, though. ---> [link]
